Three ways to help your nervous system without doing very much at all…
Here are three ways you can help to start to heal your nervous system without actually having to do very much at all…
1. Wake up without your phone.
I give this to every client because I truly think our phones are the root cause of so much distress. Keep your phone in another room when you sleep. Buy an alarm clock and don’t read emails, scroll or even let that blue light hit your eyes until after you have done your morning routine. If you don’t think you have a morning routine try these 3 steps… wake up without your phone (#1), hydrate, step outside (#2), eat, have your coffee and check in with yourself. (#3) We all know blue light is bad for our sleep at night but it is just as harmful to our hormones in the morning or anytime really. The stimulation we receive from blue light doesn’t change AM to PM.
2. Get outside.
As often as you can. Take a call and step onto the porch. Eat lunch or drink your coffee in the sunshine. Listen to the birds. Walk. Being in nature, listening to birds, feeling the sun, these are all amazing for your bodies natural rhymth. Remember, we are a piece of nature.
Bonus: if you have trouble sleeping, just go outside when you wake up and go for a walk at sunset to help reset your circadian rhythm. I’ll let you research this if you don’t trust me.
3. Start a practice if checking in with yourself.
This could be a journal, a body scan, a quick checklist like I do. I ask myself… What do I need today? What does my body need at this moment? What is calling me? (what sounds fun, relaxing, exciting.)
This may sound simple. It may be redundant information if you and I follow the same accounts, but you know what? You most likely aren’t doing all three nervous system regulating techniques most of the time.
I want you to have success. I want you to be less stressed. Adding in these simple ways to start to heal gives you more bang for your buck.
I promise if you do these three things and stick to them for months, you will have so much self-awareness, you will sleep better, you will have a greater capacity to begin to heal AND you will be open to new and maybe more on-trend ways of helping out that nervous system.
