sure You can do it all, but do you need to?

It seems like the older I get the wiser and WAY less rushed I tend to be. Not just in the day-to-day but on the big stuff too. I frequently find myself saying, “sure Lyndsey you can do that but do you need to?”

I’m the type of person, if you or I tell myself I can’t do something, I will for sure do it to spite you or myself. So instead of saying, no you can’t chase that dream, I always ask, do I need to?

Which brings me to this blog… if you’re on Instagram, I promised you a blog post on your nervous system. I actually get a lot of questions about the nervous system. Probably because my followers are a type… over-achieving, savvy, smart, Taylor Swift loving, type A, or type I can do it all, successful yet always saying it is never enough kind of gals.

So inevitably, we’ve got a lot of whacked nervous systems in my community.

I know everyone goes right for the big things when it comes to healing the nervous system. On trend lately is the cold plunge. Two years ago it was the Wim Hof breathing method. I’m not knocking these modalities, I understand the science and I’m here for it.

If I'm being honest, I never follow trends right away. This goes back to me doing the opposite of what I am told I should or can’t do. You tell me to take a cold plunge, I’m going to find another option that works for me purely to be a rebel (my poor husband, he did not marry a sheep, that's for sure.)

Your little nervous system. Yep, she’s probably whacked. It’s ok…

Until it isn't ok.

Until you can’t sleep, waking up at 3 a.m.

Until you’re constantly on edge, never relaxing or pooping and you chase happiness vs. embodying it.

Fun stuff. Let’s dig in!

When I graduated college, my acupuncturist told me flat out, your nervous system is a mess and your adrenals are f*cked. I was having constant anxiety. My sex drive was in the tank. My need to achieve was in overdrive. I was NOT happy. I was not thriving. I was 24 and a total wreck.

I’ve been chasing the unicorn of a healthy nervous system ever since.

I deepened my yoga practice, I doubled down on breathing and meditation. I started working out outside most of the time. I drank less of all the bad things. I healed my wounds. I dealt with my trauma. I lowered my expectations. I learned to have fun. I married a Capricorn (very grounding and fun all at the same time.) I balanced my blood sugar.

Then I became a mom. Then I started this business of mine in 2020. So yes when I say I am always working on my nervous system it is because life is full. I’m actually ok with the fact that she (my body and nervous system included) may always need support.

What years of doing the work has taught me is that some things are easier to stick to than others. We love easy, don't we?

The first step to easy healing is being in touch with your body and mind. Your body and your mind are always with you, always giving you great feedback and clues if you pay attention. When you tap in and build your connection to yourself you will be guided to heal in some pretty cool ways.

Our mind impacts our body and vice versa. You literally feel your thoughts in your body. To begin to change or if you just want to flex that self awareness muscle use the questions below in your journal or on your next walk. You might gain some wild clarity.

Start to simply ask yourself...

  • Why do I do this?

  • Why do I feel this way?

  • Where did this come from?

  • Is this true?
